What is Pentosan Polysulfate?

Pentosan Polysulfate is a sterile formulation designed to temporarily coat and replenish the glycosaminoglycan (GAG) layer in the urinary bladder. It can be used to help relieve bladder pain and discomfort related to interstitial cystitis, which is a disease that causes swelling and scarring of the bladder wall. Pentosan Polysulfate requires a prescription from your veterinarian. Syringe not included.

Pentosan Polysulfate should be administered exactly as directed by your veterinarian. The usual dose varies by the condition of your pet or horse. Your veterinarian will determine the dosage for your pet or horse.  Pentosan Polysulfate should be administered by IM injection.

What happens if I miss giving a dose of Pentosan Polysulfate?

If a dose is missed, give the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is close to the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume a regular dosing schedule directed by your vet.

What happens if I overdose my pet on Pentosan Polysulfate?

If an overdose is suspected, contact your veterinarian immediately.
